This topic discusses the options that are available for controlling which related videos appear on the video end screen.
Working with related videos
Video Cloud offers an option to display related videos on the video end screen. In the Publishing module, select a player, click Settings and then select the Video Player tab. When you select Related Videos, thumnails for up to 100 videos from your account will be displayed. Related videos are ranked by relavance, which is measured in terms of shared words in the name, short description, and tags of the current video.
While the default behavior of related videos works for most publishers, there are scenarios where the default behavior of the related videos feature may not be desired:
- If your account has both free and paid/restricted content, related videos might display paid/restricted content to an unauthorized user.
- You may want better control over what is considered "related" vs. using the default behavior of relateed videos.
Options for customizing the related videos
There are a couple of options available if you want to develop your own custom related videos feature:
- Use the Media and Smart Player APIs
- Use a third party technology which provides you with a list of related videos
Using the Media and Smart Player APIs to generate a list of related videos
The Media API can be used to programmatically generate a custom list of related videos. Then, using the Smart Player API, you can modify the appearance of your player to displaythe related videos. Note: The Media Read APIs are available only for Video Cloud Pro and Enterprise customers and to Video Cloud Express Plan III customers.
Using a third party technology to generate a list of related videos
Taboola is a Brightcove partner that has developed technology that can predict what videos and articles users may want to consume next once visiting a website. Taboola uses contextual, behavioral and social cues to help determine which items to recommend on publisher websites. The Taboola functionality can be integrated into your players with a single line of JavaScript.
